Spoiler Alert!

The film "Security," released in 2017, is an action thriller film starring Antonio Banderas, Ben Kingsley, and Katherine de la Rocha. This is a story of a mall security guard who must protect an eleven-year-old girl from a gang that wants to kill her. Will the security guard be able to save the girl from the gangsters? Let's find out in this recap.

The film begins with a man named Eddie Deacon (Antonio Banderas) who is a former marine captain. He is unemployed and looking for a job. So he applied for a job at an outsourcing company. However, the HR found out that Eddie has a psychological condition that is still vulnerable after retiring from the Marine Corps. So she informed Eddie that there was no suitable job for Eddie. Eddie told the woman that he had been unemployed for a year, and needed a job ASAP to support his wife and daughter. He also told her that he was ready to do any job, including being a cleaning service officer. When HR did not give any positive response, Eddie was about to leave. But the HR called Eddie and told him about an opening of security guard at a mall with immediate joining, but with minimum wages and long working hours. Eddie immediately accepted the job.

In the next scene, a convoy of the U.S. Marshal was seen escorting an eleven-year-old girl named Jamie (Katherine de la Rocha), who was scheduled to testify in court the next day. She is the main witness in an organized crime trial involving a crime gang named “the Triple Six.” They are one of the most feared crime gangs of the city. On the way, the Marshals realized that they were being followed. Shortly after, the convoy was ambushed by a group of heavily armed professional mercenaries. One of the US Marshals then asked Jamie to hurry to escape into the forest and seek help. All the US marshals were killed in the encounter but Jamie managed to escape. The mercenaries realized that Jamie had run away, and immediately cleaned the scene to remove any evidence.

In the next scene, Eddie called his wife, and told her that he got a job as a security guard. He also sent greetings to his daughter, whom he had not seen for a long time. Eddie seems to be still traumatized by his past as a soldier. However, disregarding the past trauma, he headed to the mall to get to work. He reached the mall where he was immediately greeted by a man named Vance, who was the senior security guard of the mall. Vance then introduced Eddie to his colleagues; Ruby, Mason and Johnny, who greeted Eddie quite kindly. Eddie noticed that the mall's security system was slightly compromised, and Vance assumed that the problem was caused by the bad weather. Vance then gave Eddie a security guard uniform, and gave a tour of the mall. Eddie asked why the mall could be guarded by five security guards when it was closed. Vance told him about a robbery that killed dozens of people. Vance also told him about gangsters causing increased crime in the locality. Eddie finally got to work.

While he was patrolling, he saw Jamie banging on the mall doors, begging to be let in. Eddie opened the door and let her in. She was terrified and collapsed unconscious as soon as he let her in. Eddie picked her up and laid her on the couch. Vance tried to contact the police. But strangely, they didn't get a signal at all, and the phone line was also disconnected. Suddenly, a man named Charlie (Ben Kingsley) came to the mall and claimed to be the father of a missing girl and asked Vance if he had seen her. Vance told him about Jamie and ordered another security guard to bring Jamie. Everyone was convinced that Charlie is Jamie’s father except Eddie. Eddie had suspicion on Charlie because when Jamie arrived at the mall, she looked terrified as if she was trying to run away from someone. So Eddie asked Charlie about Jamie's traits. When Jamie is brought downstairs to meet Charlie, she gets terrified at the sight of Charlie and runs inside the mall screaming as if she has seen a ghost. Seeing this, Eddie forbade Vance to open the door for Charlie.

Then we come to know that Charlie is not Jamie's father. Actually, he is the leader of the mercenaries who attacked the US Marshal's convoy and planned to capture Jamie. Charlie disguised himself as Jamie's father just to gain access to her. Charlie then offers Vance some money to hand the girl over to them. Eddie refused but Vance seemed tempted by his offer, so Eddie was forced to knock him unconscious. Charlie threatens Eddie and then leaves to prepare for the attack. Charlie asked his men to surround the mall from all sides, set a perimeter, and disable their cars.

On the other hand, Eddie tries to find Jamie who is hiding somewhere in the mall. After some time, she comes out of her hiding place and asks Eddie to promise her to always protect her. Eddie promises her to protect her at all costs. When everyone gathers, Mason tells Eddie and the other guards about Jamie's father, who used to be the money man for the cartel, but decided to betray them by exposing the cartel's crimes to the police and was eventually killed. Jamie witnessed the murder and wanted to testify. So she has been placed in witness protection for her testimony in court against the cartels. Upon hearing the story, Eddie moves Jamie in a storage room to keep her safe, and gives her a radio to keep in touch with her. Eddie also asked her not to open the door for anyone no matter what happened until it is completely safe. Other security guards including Vance seemed so scared as they knew that Charlie and his gang were able to kill the highly trained U.S. Marshals. They are just a bunch of security guards and these mercenaries can easily finish off them. However, Eddie, who is a former marine, is not afraid of Charlie's threats. He already had some strategy and tried to calm them down.

Then Eddie and the other guards make homemade bombs and various other traps to defend the mall and protect Jamie. Charlie begins his assault by ordering one sniper to enter through the roof, while the others try to infiltrate through the back door. With the help of Vance and the others, Eddie manages to kill several mercenaries. However, the sniper managed to break into the mall building and attacked Vance. Luckily, Ruby arrived just in time and saved him. Charlie then withdrew his troops, and ordered them to clean up the crime scene before starting the next attack. Eddie and the security guards then devise a defense plan by having Vance, Ruby, and Mason stand guard at every entry and exit of the mall, and ask Johnny to signal any patrolling police passing by using a flashlight. Jamie also came out of hiding and offered her help.

On the other hand, Charlie and his men managed to infiltrate the mall with the help of their hacker. Jamie uses a drone to distract Charlie revealing an entrance to him in the process. Charlie orders his men to go to that location and offers some money to the first person who kills the girl. His men tried to enter but one of them died due to a trap that Eddie had set. Ruby managed to hit one of the mercenaries with an arrow but got seriously injured in the process. Mason manages to kill two of them with the traps and weapons prepared by Eddie. He also manages to retrieve their rifles. However, when Eddie was going to meet Mason to retrieve the rifle, the mercenaries found out about Eddie's whereabouts and attacked him, so Eddie had to escape. A police patrol car was seen heading towards the mall and stopped right in front of the entrance. Johnny tries to get their attention but his flashlight stops working, so Johnny gets out of the mall to alert the police. However, he was spotted and killed by the sniper before reaching the police patrol car. Policemen did not find any sign of disturbance so they left.

Then Eddie asked his co-workers to gather at the toy store. While heading towards the toy store, Eddie managed to bring down one of the mercenaries and grabbed his gun, then killed the other mercenaries who were guarding there. Charlie was watching all this through the CCTV camera. Vance and Ruby came out of hiding, but they were attacked. Ruby rushed to save Vance, asking him to flee immediately. At the same time, the mercenaries who had found out about Mason's whereabouts tried to kill him. However, Eddie arrived just in time and managed to kill them all. Eddie and the others manage to get to the toy store and hide there. Charlie, who saw everything on CCTV, became very angry and decided to intervene himself to kill them all. Ruby died because of the injuries. Vance seemed so devastated by the loss of the woman he loved and also who had saved his life. Then Eddie asks Jamie to hide, and gives her a doll which has a weapon hidden inside. Jamie then tells Eddie about her life that has been haunted since her father's death because the Triple Six were after her. Eddie seemed sympathetic and apologized to Jamie for not understanding the situation. But Eddie will keep his promise to protect Jamie, and once again refuses Charlie's offer to hand the little girl over to him.

Eddie sees a suspicious van which is actually the hacker’s van who is helping Charlie to plan the attacks. Eddie suspects that the van is the reason behind the blocked signal. Meanwhile, Mason sees a US Marshals car arriving in front of the mall. Eddie intends to go out the back door to meet the US Marshals, and asks Vance to stand guard in front of the toy shop. However, after Eddie leaves, the mercenaries manage to break into the toy store and Vance engages in a fierce gun fight with them. On the other hand, the US Marshals ask Eddie to kneel down and point a gun at him, Eddie tells them that he is not Jamie's kidnapper and just a security guard who is trying to save the girl. Then he asks Mason to take Jamie to the US Marshals. While Mason was bringing Jamie out, Eddie sees the Triple Six tattoo marks on the necks of the Marshals, and realizes that they are part of the gang and trying to fool them. But Mason had already come out of hiding with Jamie and had to face the attack of the mercenaries and was shot dead. However, Jamie managed to escape. Vance eliminates the remaining mercenaries to aid Jamie's escape, but he is badly injured and lies helpless.

After taking down gangsters disguised as federal agents, Eddie tells Jamie to go and fetch a radio to signal for help. It turned out that Charlie was listening to Eddie and Jamie's conversation through the walkie-talkie. So he orders his remaining men to kill Eddie, and goes looking for Jamie himself. Eddie tries to get rid of the radio van to get the phone signal back on, and manages to knock out the mercenaries. But then he was attacked by a mercenary named Dead Eyes (Cung Le) who is Charlie's second-in-command and a tough fighter. The two of them engaged in a fierce fight. But Eddie was able to subdue him after a long fight. Then he used another vehicle to crash into the radio van and get rid of the hacker. Dead Eyes tries to attack him again, but Eddie was able to kill him using Vance's gun which he had in his car, which Vance had previously informed him of before Eddie carried out his plan. Eddie  managed to kill the sniper guarding the building. But he also got shot several times in the process.

Meanwhile, Charlie tries to find Jamie at the mall, and tells her how he too was abandoned by his father, and offers to look after and care for her in exchange for her silence. Jamie tries to escape, but Charlie manages to find her hiding place and then catches her. Just as Charlie is about to kill Jamie, Eddie emerges staggering and injured. Charlie then tells Eddie that he should just take the money and go away, so his co-workers don't die in vain. But Eddie does not regret his decision and will keep his promise. Jamie then surprises Charlie with a taser hidden inside the doll previously given to her, which catches Charlie off guard and allows Eddie to shoot Charlie in the head with Vance's gun, killing him.

After that, Jamie rushed to call the police, and soon, the police arrived and were about to take Jamie to safety. Jamie thanked him and hugged Eddie tightly before leaving with the police. Eddie sees Vance being taken to the ambulance, having survived his injuries. A few days after the incident, Jamie visited Eddie at the hospital, and told him that his daughter must be lucky to have a father like him. Her uncle then came to take her home. The film ends by showing Eddie recovering and reuniting with his wife and daughter. The moral that we can learn from this film is that we should have a high concern and sense of humanity, as shown by Eddie and his co-workers who are willing to sacrifice their lives to protect a little girl they don't even know.
