Brahmastra Movie: Scene-by-Scene Explanation

Spoiler Alert!

Brahmastra Part 1 (Shiva) is a good one-time watch. The film starts with a narration in Amitabh Bachchan’s Voice. He tells that a very long time ago a group of sages had performed huge Yagya to please Lord Shiva. Pleased with this, Lord Shiva gave them different boons and Astra. Vanara-Astra, Nandi-Astra, Jal-Astra, Agni-Astra, and many such Astra appeared as the result. But along with them an all-powerful Astra also appeared, which was as powerful as Shiva's third eye. As soon as it appeared, the universe started to collapse, but after a lot of struggle and sacrifice, those sages were able to get it under control. The name of that weapon was Brahmastra, and it was the god of all Astras. Then they combined their powers and put the power of Brahmastra into a stone. After this, they formed a secret group and named it Bramhansh. Then generation after generation those people kept protecting the Astras and the Brahmastra.

Now the story comes to the present with the entry of Ranbir Kapoor, who is playing the character of Shiva. Shiva is an orphan who is a DJ by profession. It is Dussehra today and Shiva is in one of Maa Durga’s temples in Mumbai. While worshiping, as soon as he closes his eyes, he sees a vision of a place in Delhi.

Then there is the entry of Shahrukh Khan, who plays the role of Mohan Bhargava, a renowned scientist. Mohan is also a member of Bramhansha and has the Vanara-Astra. The powers of the Vanara-Astra are in a bracelet that Mohan wears on his ankle. He lives in a penthouse in a tall building in Delhi. Here we come to know that the stone with the power of Brahmastra had broken into 3 pieces. It was Mohan's responsibility to guard one of them. But two goons named Zor and Raftaar reach there to take that piece. Zor has great physical strength and Raftaar is very fast. Both of them attack Mohan, but Mohan escapes all their attacks with the help of the powers of Vanara-Astra and hides away from their reach. He puts the piece of Brahmastra in Maya-Astra which looks like a box, and then turns it into a telescope. That box is a Maya-Astra which will be able to come in its real form only when the blood of the owner of that box i.e., Mohan will be applied to it. Unaware of this, Zor and Raftaar try hard to find the box but are unsuccessful. When they both give up and leave, Mohan comes back and turns the telescope back into the box with the help of his blood. But here Mohan makes a mistake as Zor and Raftaar did not leave there but pretended to leave. Now their boss Junoon (Mouni Roy) also reaches there. Junoon has the power of Agni-Astra. She has a talisman made of black stone which keeps on burning like coal and the person wearing it can be controlled by her. She puts the same talisman around Mohan's neck and captures him with its help. Then snatching the box containing Brahmastra from him, she takes out the piece of Brahmastra. But as soon as Junoon touches that piece, somewhere far away, a huge statue made of black stone starts cracking and red fire appears in those cracks. The identity of the idol will be revealed soon. After this, she removes the Vanara-Astra bracelet from Mohan's ankle and gives it to Raftaar, and makes Mohan unconscious.

Shiva's eyes open as soon as Mohan faints and he finds himself in the same temple. There he sees a girl worshiping and keeps on looking at her. The girl is none other than Alia Bhatt who is playing the character of Isha. After performing the puja, Shiva goes to the Dussehra festival, where he sees Isha again. At that time Ravana's effigy is being burnt there and as soon as Ravana is burnt, some strange red fire-like light comes out from the effigy and goes to the sky, and it seems that the light wants to attack Shiva. But fire does nothing to Shiva, he just becomes unconscious.

Then a few days later Shiva happens to be at a party and is trying to leave quickly as he has to reach an orphan's birthday party. But then he sees Isha again and instead of going to the orphanage, he follows her. Then both of them become friends. Shiva then takes Isha with him to the orphanage and has a party with the kids. After the party, he shows Isha his room, which has cracked plaster on the walls. He then tells Isha about an incident from his childhood, in which this room caught fire and the condition of the room had become like this. His mother had died in that fire, but nothing had happened to him. He shows her the last souvenir of his mother which happens to be a Sankha. Then both of them sit together and as soon as Shiva holds Isha's hand, a Trishul made of fire starts moving toward them from the sky. He leaves her hand in panic and the Trishul disappears. Even before Isha understands anything, Shiva starts having seizures and seeing visions of the events happening in Delhi.

In Delhi, when Mohan regains consciousness, Junoon tortures him and asks him to reveal the address of the remaining 2 pieces of Brahmastra. When Mohan does not tell, Junoon uses her powers to control his mind and learns that one piece is with an artist named Anish Shetty (Nagarjuna) in Varanasi and the other is with Bramhansh's Guruji in Himachal. Then Mohan regains control of his mind and jumps off the building before Junoon can find out about Guruji. Then Shiva faints.

In the next scene, when Shiva regains consciousness, he reaches Isha's Durga pandal in search of her. He gets the news of Mohan Bhargava's suicide on the TV installed in the pandal. Just then Isha comes there. Shiva tells Isha about his dream. According to this Mohan did not commit suicide but was murdered. Then he tells the rest of the story as well. After this, both of them go to Varanasi to save Anish Shetty.

While roaming in Varanasi, Shiva's hand catches fire, but nothing happens to him. Then we come to know that fire is attracted to him but does not burn him and that is why he was saved in the childhood fire, but his mother got burnt. These incidents stopped after his mother's death but started again after meeting Isha. Meanwhile, Junoon, Zor, and Raftaar reach there. Before those people catch Anish, Shiva tells him everything. Then there is a fight between them, in which Anish gets shot while trying to save Shiva. But Anish is not affected much because he has Nandi-Astra which has the powers of a thousand Nandi. With its help, they get into a car and leave for the Guru's ashram in Himachal Pradesh. But Junoon and Zor follow them in a truck. Anish then sends Shiva and Isha to Guruji with the second piece of Brahmastra and stays there to stop Junoon and Zor. To stop them, Anish rams their truck into a valley but falls to his death. But Junoon saves herself and Zor with the help of Kavach-Astra. On the other hand, Raftaar goes after Shiva and Isha. Somehow, they reach Guru's ashram, but Raftaar also reaches there and proceeds to kill Isha. As soon as Shiva sees Isha in danger, he angrily raises his hand towards Raftaar, and then suddenly the fire burning nearby dramatically comes roaring towards Raftaar and burns him to ashes. Raftaar dies and Shiva falls unconscious. Here is the entry of Amitabh Bachchan who is playing the role of Guruji. He sees all this and brings Shiva to the ashram.

Then Junoon goes to the idol shown at the beginning of the movie i.e., her guru, and tells him everything. She asks him for more powers so that she can revive him and get the Brahmastra for him. In the Ashram, Shiva regains consciousness. When he comes out, Isha takes him to a boat kept there and introduces him to 5 new members of the Bramhansh, namely Sher, Raveena, Rani, Tenzing, and Santha. He then meets Guruji who tells him that Shiva himself is Agni-Astra. But he does not believe it and gets ready to leave stating that the battle of Bramhansh is not his fight. Then Guruji tells him that the battle of Bramhansh is not just his fight but also the battle of his parents. Both of them were warriors of the Bramhansh. Hearing this, Shiva asks Guruji to tell him about his parents, but Guruji says that he will tell about his parents only when he stays in the ashram and learns to control his inner weapon i.e., Agni-Astra. Guruji then sends Isha to Mumbai to bring all Shiva's belongings with Savitri Devi (Dimple Kapadia), a senior member of Bramhansh. During this, we come to know that Guruji also has a weapon named Prabhastra.

In the next scene, Shiva narrates everything related to his dream to Guruji and the 5 new members of Bramhansh. Then Guruji asks him to learn to control his powers. For example, he shows him the powers of the new members. Sher has a Naag-Astra i.e., snake-bow, with which he can shoot snake-like arrows whenever he wants without using any arrow. Raveena has Gaj-Astra i.e., Gaj-Dhal, with which she can create an invisible shield for anyone anywhere. Tensing has a Pawan-Astra, which allows him to levitate and control objects in the air. Rani has such a weapon, by which she can control nature i.e., trees and plants. Shiva tries a lot but does not understand how to awaken and control the power within him.

In the next scene it is seen that with the help of those black stones, Junoon controls the people of a village and sends them to Isha, who has gone to Shiva's house to collect her belongings. Jor asks Isha for the address of the ashram but the seniors of Bramhansh keep him captive. But with the help of the Nandi weapon, Jor defeats everyone and injures Isha. Shiva is seeing all this in his dream. As soon as he sees Isha injured, he calls her and after knowing her well-being, starts telling her how he feels about her. The flames of all the lamps kept in the ashram started flying toward him, while he was still talking to her. Guruji sees this and concludes that Shiva's power is controlled by his love. But when he tells Shiva, he says that he is afraid of fire because it might be his fire that killed his mother, and this fire can also harm Isha as well. But then Guruji has a session with him, and he learns to control his power.

In the next scene, a man possessed by Junoon reaches close to the ashram, tracking Shiva's powers. But as soon as Shiva extinguishes the fire, he moves ahead. Shiva cannot understand why the man went back without doing anything as soon as his fire was extinguished, what could be the relation between his power and that man? Guruji then sets out with everyone to find that man and on the way tells Shiva a story from 30 years ago, when Guruji himself was a disciple. According to his story, there was a warrior in the Bramhansh named Dev. He had the power of Agni-Astra and because of his powers, people also called him Agni-Dev. He had become the master of not one but many weapons. But he wanted to become Brahma-Dev by acquiring Brahmastra. At that time the Brahmastra was not divided into three pieces. He was ready to sacrifice the whole world for the Brahmastra. For this, he defeated the senior members of Bramhansh and awakened Brahmastra. But a member of Bramhansh named Amrita (Deepika Padukone) defeats him and breaks Brahmastra into 3 pieces. They were in love before the battle between Dev's passion and Amrita's duty. But after their fight, no trace of them was found because the island on which they fought got drowned in the sea. After the fight, 2 pieces of Brahmastra were found on Amrita's boat but what happened to the third piece is not known.

After this story, Guruji tells Shiva that Amrita is his mother and Dev is his father. Even before Shiva could understand anything, those people reach the village where Junoon has taken control of the people. There they find a black stone talisman which Shiva takes in his hand. Then they see Junoon asking those people to find the ashram. While Guruji and others were watching Junoon and her army, Shiva got hypnotized by the talisman and wears it around his neck. Shiva loses consciousness as soon as he puts that talisman around his neck and his consciousness reaches Dev's idol. The idol of Dev starts pulling him towards itself, then Sher removes the talisman from Shiva's neck and Shiva regains consciousness. Then they escape from there with the help of Guruji's sword i.e., Prabhastra.

When they reach the ashram, Isha is already there who brought Shiva's belongings. Then Guruji pours Shiva's blood on the Shankha of Shiva's mother and takes out the last piece of Brahmastra from the box. This proves that Amrita is Shiva's mother and Guruji's story is true. Shiva then tells everyone that when he was wearing the talisman, he saw Dev, who is not dead but imprisoned in that idol, and wants to get out of that prison and get his hands on the Brahmastra again.

After this Guruji sends the Astras to different places with all the senior members. But before Guruji, Shiva, Isha, and the other 5 members can leave, Junoon reaches the ashram, knocks Shiva unconscious, and takes the others hostage by a sudden attack. Then she snatches the second piece of Brahmastra from Guruji and attaches it to the first one. After this, she asks them to give her the third piece. After regaining consciousness, Shiva takes the third piece and goes to Junoon who is torturing Rani by subduing her. Shiva attacks her and her men with the help of his Agni-Astra powers. Seeing no other option, Junoon asks her Guru Dev for the power of water-Astra and then controls Shiva's fire using it. But by then Guruji and the new members of Bramhansh get free and come to help Shiva. While everyone was busy in the fight, Isha starts running away with the joined piece of the Brahmastra so that Junoon could not join the last piece. But Tenzing follows Isha with the third piece of the Brahmastra. Junoon catches both of them. On the other hand, Jor injures Guruji.

Before Junoon can do anything, Shiva reaches there and puts a wall made of fire between Junoon and Isha. But Junoon with the help of Dev (who happens to be the real master of Agni-Astra) nullifies Shiva's power. After this Zor comes and starts beating Shiva and Junoon goes ahead to take Brahmastra from Isha. She pushes Isha into the valley, but Tenzing saves her with his powers and Junoon falls into the valley. On the other hand, with the help of Guruji, Shiva kills Jor with the Agni-Trishul.

Everyone becomes happy and Isha hugs Tenzing, but then a dagger comes and hits Tenzing and he falls into the valley. Then Junoon comes out of the valley and joins the three pieces of the Brahmastra. As soon as the three pieces are joined, the Brahmastra becomes alive again. Junoon is unable to bear its power and her body becomes unconscious and falls into the valley. There is immense power inside the Brahmastra, due to which the whole universe is shaken and started collapsing. As Isha was closest to the Brahmastra, Shiva risks his life and reaches her. Brahmastra starts attaining the final form. Shiva uses his body to shield Isha to save her. When the power of Brahmastra collides with Shiva, 8 hands made of fire come out from inside Shiva and make armor for Isha. But the power of Brahmastra starts spreading all around to destroy everything else and Shiva starts agonizing. Seeing him in agony, Isha touches him and as soon as she touches him, Brahmastra starts coming under Shiva's control and finally Brahmastra calms down. This is where Brahmastra Part 1 (Shiva) ends.

But this story is not over because when Junoon joined all three pieces of Brahmastra, Dev was freed. It is not known who Dev is but let me tell you that the character of Dev is going to be played by Ranbir Singh. The rest of the story will be seen in Brahmastra Part 2 (Dev).

VFX is very good in this movie and the story is fresh. But it seems that the dialogues are written by a child. In some places, the dialogues are so cringe-worthy that the viewers might feel ashamed. But overall, the film is a one-time watch. The next film will be the story of Amrita and Dev and may end up showing the fight between them. But for now, we can only guess. The real story will be revealed only after the release of the film. For now, enjoy the story by reading this recap.
